Hard to believe but Russell Wilson is a Yankee. In a move that surprised both baseball and Seahawk fans yesterday Wilson was traded from the Texas Rangers to the New York Yankees for future considerations. Wilson had been a part of the Texas Rangers organization since 2013 when they acquired him in the Rule 5 draft.
Wilson Announced the Trade via Twitter-
Wilson was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles as a second baseman out of high school in 2007. He opted to go play football at NC State instead. He has twice made one day appearances as a Ranger at their Spring Training camp. The Yankees are expecting him to make an appearance in Tampa this spring wearing the famous pinstripes.
Wilson issued a statement yesterday with the following, ““While football is my passion and my livelihood, baseball remains a huge part of where I came from and who I am today. I’ve learned so much on the baseball field that translates to my game physically and mentally playing quarterback in the NFL. I thank the Rangers and their great fans for making me feel at home and a part of the family! While I embrace the chance to be a New York Yankee, I will forever be grateful to have been a part of a world-class organization like the Texas Rangers.”
