The Winter Storm at the Winter Meetings

Well before the meetings there was a whole lot of nothing going on in the world of baseball. Lots of talk but no trades. Now it’s like the floodgates have opened and the moves are either happening very quickly from our to left field. It is impossible to keep up with the Tweets today of who is possibly considering who for a trade.

I am not at Walt Disney World’s Dolphin and Swan today but I bet it’s buzzing. I bet there are some reporters who are tired and not getting much sleep. It seems like the baseball world is full throttle not at all what was predicted going into the meetings. On MLB Central this morning they were worried about Ken Rosenthal’s lack of sleep and nutrition. He let them know he was holding up okay but had lost a few items.

Today’s rumors are that third baseman Manny Machado is on the move and he wants to play shortstop.  The Mets are shopping pitcher Matt Harvey and pitcher Jake Arietta is looking for a $200 million dollar deal.   The Yankees have made another move this time trading away their third baseman Chase Headley and relief pitcher Brian Mitchell to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Jabari Blash.  So currently the Yankees have traded two infielders their second and third basemen in about 48 hours.  They are also rumored to be seeking another starter for their rotation with Michael Fulmer from the Tigers being the players in the cross hairs.

I would love to be at the Dolphin and Swan just to be able to people watch and over hear snippets of their conversations.  I would assume most folks are glued to their phones or laptops to see what the breaking news is.  For those of us that are fans of the game it’s like baseball executive heaven.  Every decision maker is there except for Derek Jeter who oddly is not in attendance for the Marlins.  The Winter Meetings end on December 14th so we have about 2 and half days left of trades and trade rumors.  Enjoy!
